Takes multiple attempts to connect to my iPhone hotspot

I usually have to attempt to connect to my mobile hotspot a dozen times or more.

This is a real pain because I use Navionics auto-routing to create a route, export as a gpx to TZ iBoat, then sync to the TZT3. It is a fantastic workaround for the TZT3 not having auto-routing. When connected to my hotspot, it only takes seconds. But getting connected can take minutes. What can I do to make the TZT3 more reliably connect to my hotspot?

Set the WiFi "Connect to the Internet" setting on the TZT to "When Necessary". Keep the password simple, I find a series of numbers to be best.
