DRS4W iPad connection

Had an issue where iPad would not connect with radar. Finally discovered that it will not connect with iPad VPN on. Connects fine now with VPN off but I have a lingering question.
When selecting DRS4W network on iPad, a note shows up under the information tab. It says “Legacy Access Point.” “802.11b provides suboptimal performance. If this is your WiFi network, upgrade to 802.11n/ac router.” I assume the router referred to is in the radar, there is no other router on the boat. Can it be upgraded to 802.11n with software update, is there a potential for connection problems down the road, or should I just be happy that it is working and not worry about it? Thx

802.11b is 2.4 Ghz and that is what the Radar uses, it can not be changed. For internet and large downloads the higher freq (5 Ghz aka 802.11n) is desired because it can push more data at a faster rate. The radar isn't the internet. It doesn't need it, or offer it. You must use 2.4Ghz (802.11b)
