DRS4D Shenanigans

Hello... Can someone please tell me what the Receiver Module (RU-9752) in a DRS4D does? I had a customer cut the +5V (orange) wire and put in a switch so he could turn off the radar remotely... Why, I don't know. But that seems to have rendered his system inoperable (even after I removed the "mod."). Good grief...

It's the DRS4D receiver module containing the MIC and IF Amplifier. It helps prepare the received radar RF for processing in the SPU board.

Thank you, "Reaper." Have you ever heard of anyone doing that? His mod has obviously ruined the radar... In any case, I told him he needs to replace the radar with the DRS4D-NXT... We'll see what he wants to do next, but I suspect he'll keep his hands out of the new one!

No. That's a first for me. He can use a DRS4D-NXT as long as he doesn't have a NAVnet 3D system. If he does, nothing is currently available that will work on a NAVnet 3D.

He's got a TZTouch2 MFD (TZTL12F). Should be good with that, correct?
Yes. DRS4D-NXT will work with TZTL12F.

Regarding your previous question...if that's what he was using the DRS4D on, then he could have put the PSU012 (or PSU012) on a separate breaker to control power to it.

Yeah, that would've made perfect sense. He had the switch on the upper console/platform on his boat. I guess he thought since he was closer to the radar it would be easier to do it that way. I'll see if I can get a few pics. Still scratching my head... (lol)
I would have thought splicing the orange +5V wire back together would have put it back to "normal" and it would have continued working as normal. I don't have a schematic of the RU / SPU circuits so not sure what's going on with that...
