Tzt16f and usb

I’m purchasing an extender for the usb in the back of my tzt16f. I have two questions :
1) what kind of usb device is this. Usb 3.0 or 2.0? Is this just standard extender needed?
2) if I make a splash screen for my units , does each unit have to have it setup individually, or what you do in one will be cloned to the other ?

Thanks in advance

I used a cheap $10 USB 3.0 extender I got off Amazon and it works perfectly. The standard is backwards compatible anyway so just get a 3.0.

The splash screen has to be saved to each unit in my experience.

Same question here - can you provide a link to the unit you got on Amazon? Assume it's powered (12v) if overall length is > 10'?

IMHO, The best kind of USB cable for a marine application would be like this Tripp Lite 6ft. Look for ones that have double-shielded cable with tinned copper braid and aluminum mylar foil, with also twisted 28/24 AWG data lines.

Less noise, less issues, :sail

Thanks Magnetron. I've been thinking long and hard about my install and think I found the products I will try (can always replace, they're relatively inexpensive). I have 2 TZT3 units so I need double of everything.

At my helm, I have a hydraulic hatch for the electronics panel and accessible, but painful to easily reach, access underneath. The hatch itself is basically a sealed cabinet with a wire chase and I don't want to have to climb into the access or pull the panel to reach the harness.

I wanted a plug that I can put on the electronics panel with easy access to either USB cable so I went this this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY1WDIU?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

For the Micro B harness cable, a M/F adapter will be needed:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6032G0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Those parts should address the USB connectors, but I also wanted to extend the HDMI in (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089QJT3PG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 and audio cables https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YJMPPPF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details to the underneath access if needed in the future.

I'll be bench testing these components in the next week or so, will report back on how it works.

Very cool, I'm definitely interested in what you find out even if you just PM me.

I have some of those micro adapters (they look the same although with the Chinese stuff the brand names are meaningless) and they seem to work fine. Please post what you experience because many of us have similar issues. I can't easily use those USB ports at my helm because the panel is too thick unfortunately and is cored.

The bench test worked fine at least for the USB-A connection. I did a very simple save points to a USB stick and the file transferred no problem. I pulled the stick and plopped it into the micro plug connection but that didn’t seem to work. I didn’t wait long and suspect it may need a few mins to initialize. I’ll post updates after install.

Sounds good,

Thanks for letting us know about this test. :sail
