TZT12F grounding

Installing a new Touch 3. Bundled in the MFD power cord are 3 individual wires. Cant find in instructions where they go. Assuming red=12v positive, blue=12v negative and maybe black is a ground? Also there is a grounding post with wing-nut on back of MFD. Where do I send this ground? Thanks.

When looking at wiring it is recommended to refer to page S-1 of the installation manual. The interconnection diagram gives you pin out and color codes wire for wire. Looking at the drawing the Red and Blue go t the battery/power system but the bare shield is not connected. This is because of the grounding lug of the machine is where your grounding system should attach. The shield wire on this unit stays open but is internally grounded for shorting any EMI trying to get into your power cable.

Johnny, should the grounding lug be attached to a negative buss bar or the bonding system? It seems based upon varying answers within the forum that it can be to either, but the bonding system would be “best”. Does that seem accurate?

Helmsman,

You can connect the TZT12F's Ground Lug to the vessel's bonding system. There is a high possibility of electrical interference if you connect to the Vessel's Power Negative Buss Bar. If you connect to the the vessel bonding (Earth Ground), this will reduce the likelihood of any electrical interface to your marine electronics.

The best practice calls for installation of a Earth Ground bus bar that is dedicated for electronic component bonding, (typically installed near the helm or electronics area). That Earth Grounding bus bar is then connected to the remainder of the vessel’s grounding system, which again should be common with all of the vessel’s grounding and bonding systems.

Thank you! I will set it up that way.
