TZT12 Shutdown

On the first day of using TZTL12F (Version 6.23), my friends reported that the screen turned off 2 times and could only turn on after keeping it off for about 30 minutes. The two occurrences were close to 12 o'clock, the hottest period, and had the impression that it was by heating.
It happened like this:

- Screen got dimmer
- Power button was red and dead
- Soon after it turned off (with power button turning red)
- Turn off the breaker, after 30 minutes turn off the breaker, turn on the screen and continue using.

The sun shines directly on the top of the panel where it is installed and this cabinet has no natural or forced ventilation.

Do you have any history? Can I do anything to prevent this or protect the equipment?

Mamasso,
Thank you for your inquiry. As a general rule the TZT2 product line has not had a history with units overheating. However there are certain mounting conditions which could theoretically cause a unit to shut down from overheating or extreme cold. The working temperature of the TZT2 line is from -5C to +55C ( +5F to +131F degrees).
It is essential to provide some air circulation near the rear of the unit so as to provide the ability of the unit to cool itself. The TZT2 product has an internal fan that circulates air within the unit to assist with cooling the unit. I would suggest that your friend install a vent in the dash or a small cooling fan behind the unit. If that fails to rectify the issue I would suggest contacting our technical support department (410-479-4420 or 834-360-9300) as there is a SELT TEST within the SERVICE MAN that can tell us diagnostic information, including max CPU temp, that may assist with trouble shooting this problem.

Flatline,

Thanks for your quick reply. Can I contact support via email (which would it be?)? or could you ask them to send the procedure to mamasso@gmail.com? I don't speak English and use translate to communicate with you, sorry.

Regards
Angelo

I’d also check for proper power supply and grounding. Wouldn’t be the first time a bad ground or older circuit breaker caused a voltage drop as it heated up.

It is installed on the same circuit as the Garmin 7610xsv, which has no problems. But I will check the installation.
