STILL cannot backup waypoints and routes

I am tiring of the failed attempts at updating or backing up. This should be so simple yet the first update I attempted fried the motherboard earning a trip back to Furuno for a brand new unit. I have been trying for months to back up my waypoints and routes and instead, I get the error message that backup failed. I want to attempt the new update but do not want to do it until I back up what I have per Furuno recommendations.

I have attempted 2 USB sticks/thumb drives(don't have in front of me) and the following SD cards

Lexar 1GB
PNY 2GB
Digital Media 1GB
ScanDisk 1GB

Failed on all of them. This is getting a bit ridiculous and I would sure like to figure out why I cannot back up my waypoints.

I would start by saying I don't recommend PNY for anything on our units. They almost are always a problem. Next I would say if you are trying memory sticks that haven't been reformatted then it sounds like your USB port or unit has an issue that needs to be looked at. Old or reformatted sticks can run into problems. The system can't read NTSF or apple formats. It isn't this hard do a backup the points using a standard memory stick. I can only guess that your system needs to be looked at. It might be good to keep a USB stick that you only use for backups once you get everything working. Using memory for other uses can end up getting the format to something else and then it wont work. USB sticks are cheap.

So after 4 SD cards and 2 thumb drives that all don't work, how about Furuno tell me exactly what to buy that WILL work. It is amazing that all these storage devices work for everything I have done with them EXCEPT back up waypoints from a Furuno device. I am tired of guessing and buying memory that won't work. Tell me what to buy.

Jagsare1,

I have never had a failure with the following:

SanDisk Cruzer Blade 4GB USB
or
SanDisk 2GB/4GB MicroSD (with or without SD or USB adapters)

Thank you, I will try to find those. I just don't understand why Furuno devices are so picky about which SD card is used.

Strike out. I purchased the recommended micro SD card and still cannot back up my waypoints. When I try, it just says export failed. Once again, I have to waste the time, effort, money and lost fishing time to send it back to Furuno for another repair.

You said you tried a micoSD card this time. Just know that you can't save waypoint to the micoSD card slot in the back of the machine no matter what card you use. You must use the USB port. Maybe it is the USB card reader you are using and not the chips? If you can't get your USB port to work then it might need to be evaluated for repair.

I know I can't use the micro SD reader on the back. I will go get another adapter and try that but this truly has become ridiculous. I have no problems using any of these cards, thumb drives or adapter anywhere else but on this machine....if in fact the adapter is the issue.

I think the attached fully explains backups, importing, exporting; what ports or memory device to use.

Backup is the term used to backup equipment settings.

Import / Export is for routes, points, tracks.

I imported some routes today, no problems with Cruzer Blade 4GB

Tried one more time today before the unit goes back to Furuno. This time after it says "Export failed", I tried exporting tracks and it did that with no problem. Tried exporting settings and again, success. But it will NOT export "points and routes". As ramatuska showed above, the terminology might be wrong but the procedure is correct and easy. It just won't work so back to Furuno for the second time tomorrow.
