Signal Level and Transmission

Could someone please give me an overview of what Signal Level and Transmission do in the sonar mode of a NavNet VX2 w/DFF1? Also what is the factory default and any suggested changes from that for finding fish from 0- 400' deep. Thanks in advance for any help

Haggardscove,
The PRR (Pulse Repetition Rate) is how fast that a sounder will transmit, I recommend setting this to 10. The Signal Level control helps get rid of the weaker echoes i.e light blues and greens. To see how this control affects the sounder display set the SL level to 0 then to the highest setting to see how it will remove the weaker colors from the display. I would also do this with the Clutter control. The most common mistake is that folks don't use enough gain, they will turn the gain up until random clutter appears and then back the gain off until it goes away, thus seeing the bottom but not many fish targets. I have found a better way is start with both the Signal Level and Clutter controls set to 0. Then turn up the gain until you start seeing clutter and then a bit more. Leave the sounder this way until you run over some fish targets, once you see the fish target through the clutter you can turn up the clutter control to help suppress the weaker blues and greens. If you are still seeing a few flecks of the weaker colors you can use the Signal Level control to remove them.
