RDP-143 LCD Display Jumping Pixel lines

Hi There,

I bought my 28 Bertram 4 years ago with all Furuno gear, Sounder, Navnet VX2 as the plotter and RDP-143 as the radar. I powered up all the units from sitting through the winter and the rdp-143 powered up but the screen showed a bunch of lines and single pixel lines moving horizontally and vertically. This unit has the rectangular connection. So I have a few questions:

1. Can the dome be connected to the vx2 with a different wire or an adapter that goes from the square type to the round connector that is on the back of the vx2? This would allow me to use the vx2 as radar and a plotter.

2. Is there a repair option for this screen?

3. What other units could be purchased used to replace the rdp-143?

4. Is it cheaper to find a different dome that links to the vx2?

Thanks so much you guys in advance.

1. No. There are specific dome radars that worked with the 7" NAVnet vx2 when it was still sold. There was an RSB110-070 (2.2kW, 24nm, 18" dome) or an RSB0071-058 (4kW, 36nm, 24" radome).

2. We don't have a repair option, but you may be able to find an aftermarket LCD repair place that could do it

3. You would only want to replace the RDP143 with another RDP143. If sold with the radar, you could purchase a 1724C/NT or 1734C/NT.

4. Only the domes listed in answer #1 would work.

There are 5 generations of NAVnet newer than the vx2. You would be better off to purchase all new equipment because very little of the older equipment is still compatible with the current equipment.

Thanks Reaper! You know your stuff! I found an 0071 antenna unit but no cord. Can I buy the cord somewhere. Also, not sure it matters but it's the Navnet VX2 10" display RDP 149 to be specific.

Further should I not be able to display my radar to the VX2 through the network? I have tried all the source options (IP addresses)in the installation setup. No luck. I am getting display on my older and upper helm unit an old green display, I can't remember the model# right now. And can turn the dome on from there but not the VX2. Should I try a direct link? Is that possible without the screen working and into a data port opposed to the network?

Now I'm not sure what vx2 you actually have. All of your questions were based on the RDP143 (7" NAVnet vx2). It appears that you are now stating that it's not the RDP143, but rather the RDP149 (NAVnet vx2 10.4")? Here are the scenarios:
1. If RDP143 (7"), then the dome must be RSB0071-058 that has rectangular connector. We do not have any scanner cables for these.
2. If RDP149 (10.4"), then the dome must be RSB0071-057 that has round connector. We do have one scanner cable for this. It is a 15 meter cable, part number 001-409-520-00. It can be purchased from any Furuno USA dealer.
3. It DOES make a difference if it's a 7" or 10.4". They use different electronics inside the domes.

I need more information...
1. What two NAVnets are you trying to view radar on?
2. What/which is the source of the radar you are trying to view?
3. If one of the two NAVnets have radar going to it, then the other should be able to receive the radar signal via the network connection. The two devices must have different device numbers (IP addresses) and the radar source must be selected as the device number that physically has the radar attached to it.

Apologies, I have 2 units the 10.4" VX2 RDP-149 and then the second unit that the display is not working is the 7" RDP-143 (has the rectangle radar connected) that I thought was a VX1. I was hoping the 149 could display the radar image through the network but I cannot get it to display. Perhaps the network connection is not working properly or they are not compatible.

Perhaps a phone call would be easier. As I have tried to connect the source radar to the RDP-149 trying all 4 IP addresses available. Not sure why the RDP-149 will not pick up the RDP-143 radar source.

I am making this confusing because I am confused and I apologize and really appreciate the assistance. There are three units. The 2 in the picture I sent consisting of the 7" RDP-143 with the broken display and the radar connection. Beside it is the 10.4" RDP-149 that I use as a plotter and would like to display the radar signal from the RDP-143.

At my second helm that is never used, there is an older RDP-127 that displays the radar image from the RDP-143 when turned on. I have looked in this network setup and has the radar source from "RADAR" in words with no IP address. It is really unfortunate that I cannot open the 143 network setup to see what the host IP is. Hope this clarifies my mess.
