For typical coastal cruising 5 miles offshore or within a harbor, what settings are most people using for these?

1.Advanced or Coastal?

2. Auto, or Manual?

2A. If manual, is Gain=80 and Sea=50 appropriate?

I realize its subjective, and many factors involved just looking for ideas. TY.

The auto gain and filters on Furuno radars work very well. Unless I am trying to find birds or there is some special reason, I just leave my radar on auto gain and use the "advanced" sea state setting and leave the rain filter off unless it is raining hard. If you want to use manual gain, you will need to adjust it each time you change the range.

You cannot just use a single number value all the time for manual gain except as a starting point. You can experiment by turning off the sea state and rain filters and then adjusting the gain manually until you see a fair number of speckles on the display, then back it off a little so there are just a few speckles. Then you can turn on the sea state filter in auto advanced or you can adjust it manually until the speckles just disappear..
