Pre-purchase compatability check

I have a 40' blue water cruising sailing yacht, I'm upgrading my NavNet3D to a TZTL12F MFD and I propose to add a DRS4D-NXT and SCX20. Are the radar and satellite compass fully compatible with the TZTL12F?

Also, can the DRS4D-NXT ethernet cable be connected to an ethernet switch, which the TZTL12F is also connect too? I already have a Netgear FS108 switch mounted for the 3D to PC connection, and it would be good to re-use this if practical.

Thanks

Nick

You might want to consider skipping forward two generations and getting a TZTXL unit. The TZTL12F was released nearly 10 years ago and is much, much slower than an XL. It is also limited in the cartography options that are available. Of course the XL will be more expensive, however, even Furuno stops supporting older products eventually and the TZT2 will become a legacy product much before the XL. If you will be keeping it a long time, that is another consideration.

Thanks for that information, definitely food for thought. Re cartography limitations - can the current TZMaps work on the TZTL12F?

I really like the TZ iBoat charts on my iPad and want the same on my MFD.

The new charts available in TZ iBoat on the iPad are only available for the XL. Neither the TZTL12F nor the newer TZT3 MFDs can use the new charts. When this question came up earlier, the explanation was that the processing power of the older MFDs is not sufficient to render the new charts. I have two TZT3 displays and one TZTXL and would agree with you that the new charts are definitely better. It would not be quite so relevant to you as a cruising sailor but the biggest advantage for me fishing are the bathymetric charts showing bottom contours in great detail.

With the TZTL12F, you would be limited to the MapMedia charts. You can go to the Furuno website and see all of the charts that are available, which include the free raster and vector charts and ones that you have to purchase.
