NavPilot 711C PGN Output

The manual says Course Control>Output PGN List refers to "NMEA200 Sentences that can be output to the Navpilot"...the wording of that statement confuses me a little...

So is "output to the NavPilot" mean the PGN sentences that the NavPilot can RECEIVE? (incoming)

Installation Manual Pub. No. IME-72720-L NAVpilot-700 Series L : SEP. 25, 2015

page 57. or 3-21.

I think it should read 'by' and not 'to'

NAVpilot-711C Operators Manual 7-24 (p. 136)

Referring to the [CAN bus Setup] menu:
"This display shows all the NMEA2000 sentences that can be output to the NAVpilot"

I am assuming that "output to" means "incoming"...or "received" by the NAVPilot from other devices? Or does it mean the sentences that the NAVpilot can "output" or" send" to other devices?

I am trying to determine which PGN sentences I need to turn on for my 711C. I recently did the upgrade and master reset the unit. I can't recall what PGN sentences I had turned on previously.

On a side note...the master reset and re-calibrating of my heading sensor fixed the calm water "swerving" problem I posted about previously..drove straight as a pin...like it was on rails!

Are you looking manual we have listed on our website? The version I see from the Furuno USA website is dated Dec 20, 2018. It appears that they have already correct the manual.NP700Manual.JPG

Actually...no...seems like I was using an prior version that came with my unit in Dec 2017.

But looking at 7-24 (p.136) of the currently posted operators manual...the information is still the same as I posted.

Okay switching subjects to the operator's manual. That part posted is talking about a completely different screen. The prior installation manual area was talking about the Canbus PGN monitor screen (that shows what is received or incoming to the pilot). The page you just posted from the operator's manual shows the PGN output selection selection screen. (Selecting which PGNs you would like to OUTPUT) Scrolling down the list it does exactly like the book says. It shows which PGNs that can be output from the pilot. I am not seeing an error.

You are saying "output from" but the manual says "output to".....there lies my confusion...

lol...no problem.

So, just so I am clear...its the PGNs that the NavPilot sends out to other devices on the network?

Do you have any suggestions as to which should be turned on? tzt/tzt/nxt/dff3d/bb330/fap7002/711c/hub101/etec/etec/icommand

The screen from the operator's manual? Then, yes that is correct. The correct wording I have suggested to Japan is “This display shows all the NMEA 2000 Sentences that can be output to the connected NMEA 2000/CANbus.”

Normally the pilot itself only needs to output the "Rudder" PGN (Which is already on by default). You don't want to turn on sentences that are already provided by other devices on the network. The only time you might turn something else "On" would be if the pilot is acting as a converter. For example you wire 0183 GPS data to your pilot but would like that GPS to get passed to the NMEA 2000 bus; then you would turn on the Position PGN to get translated and passed to the bus. This is just an example. Every install is different and data flow is very important. You don't want data loops/regurgitation.

The manual saying the menu enables PGN's to be "Output to the NAVpilot" is definitely incorrect. How would it "output to" itself? That's actually the definition of an oxymoron. It would "send" or even "output from" itself... I would suggest....

“This display shows all the NMEA 2000 Sentences that can be output from the NAVpilot to connected NMEA 2000/CANbus.”

“This display shows all the NMEA 2000 Sentences that can be sent from the NAVpilot to connected NMEA 2000/CANbus.”

You get the idea. Why leave any room for confusion. The technical literature should be clear and irrefutable. Think of the time it has already costed us, imagine what it has cost others...just for the lack of a word or two.

Thanks...I initially thought only the "rudder" PGN should be output...then I started to turn on some more PGN's when I thought that the menu was to enable what the NAVpilot receives (like GPS data from the TZT). I will disable those ASAP.

Thanks for that information, it was VERY helpful. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry...just one last question and I think everything will be in order...

What device on my network should provide the "Rate of Turn" PGN? Currently on my TZT it is set to "NavPilot-700" which is the only device offered.

The pilot is the only source of Rate of Turn in your system. The NP711C can put out ROT (rate of turn) via 0183 or NMEA 2000 (PGN 127251).

Awesome...thanks.

I am guessing the only device on the network that would need ROT would be the 711C...so there is probably no need to turn the 711C's ROT PGN output on?
