Navpilot 711

I missed that. I thought you said it still wasn't working. Glad it's working now. Heading is very important and should be within a degree or so of the Richie compass (or equivalent) and it should align with COG -for the most part- when moving 3kts or better. If it was off, the autopilot may have been fighting with the conflict.

Ok sorry to be a PIA but this morning it decided not to work right again and would drift to port and do the same wheel turning issue. I put it into Wind mode for a few minutes and worked perfectly so put back to Auto and it also was perfect too!! I have seen this work before. Then I shut down the power to the Auto helm, waited 20 seconds, turned on the power to the system and waiting for a few minutes for the PG700 to do its thing and for all the lights to turn green, then turned on the 711C and put it on Auto and it worked fine too. The last part doesn’t make sense as if the PG700 isn’t ready to go the display will normally tell me. So I think I can get it working ok but don’t know why either of the two things above get it to work. Bad processor?
Thank you, Richard

If processor related, it may need a master reset. After the master reset, the autopilot would need to be setup again like it just came out of the box new. If you want to try that, here's the reset process:

Explanation could be a corrupted temp file or something stuck in the memory causing it to do strange things. This process would potentially fix that problem.

Ok it will have to wait now til November, as the boat is going to be put away for the season next week. I think I will get another PG700 and bring down with me also in case the controller reset doesn’t work. I did not do a master reset on the PG700 before doing the compass alignment is there any chance that could fix it? Is there any weird option in the settings that would make it that you have to turn on the system and let the compass do its thing before turning on the 711?

If you're going to do the master reset on the autopilot, it may make sense to clear the PG700 too. It's possible there's something in the PG700 that could be causing a problem, but there aren't any known problems with them. You can turn on the autopilot while the PG700 is timing in. There aren't any restrictions for that except having to wait until the PG700 is ready before engaging the autopilot (Auto or Nav).
