I have a NAVnet vx2 that will not produce a depth after about 90 feet. I have replaced the DFF1 and the Transducer and still have the problem. :sorry

Good morning Fish Killer,

Thank you for your inquiry. I have a couple of follow up questions and request. Can you post a photo of what the fish finder looks like when this happens? We need to try and gather more information about what is happening.

So you when say that the unit will not produce a depth, is this regarding a digital depth number displayed on the screen?

Or are you saying that the fish finder will not pick up a good bottom return when it is over 90ft?

Furuno 1.jpgIt will not produce a digital depth on the screen. It wont produce a depth on the sounder screen either.

It works just fine in shallower water.....once it gets to 90 or maybe 100 ft it stops displaying a depth.

Fish Killer,

Thank you for the photo,

It is hard to say what is going on, do you have a photo of the fish finder screen when this is happening? Something that shows what the bottom looks like on the fish finder screen?

Without seeing what the bottom looks like on the fish finder screen it will be hard to diagnose. You could try and lower the "Bottom Level Threshold" for both the low and high frequency. Please see photo below, I believe the default setting is "0" for both the high and low frequency. Try lowering the level for both high and low frequency to "-40" and see if the digital depth comes back when in deeper water. If it does not try and lower the threshold even more until you get the digital depth. If you end up lowering the threshold all the way to "-100" and you still do not get a digital depth reading we will need to see some photos of the fish finder display to further investigate a solution.

Thank you for your help so far....I am onshore now and wont be able to duplicate the scenario again until Friday when I go offshore again. I am going to try to implement the suggestions that you have given so far...on Friday. I will get back with you either way as to an outcome. I hope that what you have suggested so far, works.

I went out Friday...it's still not working. It stopped working at 65 feet on the way out. I took pictures of all of the screens that I thought might be helpful. I also took pictures of the sounder working when it was showing depth and bottom. It seems to be working fine...just till it gets to a depth of 65 feet or so. :-(

I have tried to post pictures but the forum doesn't seem to be working with the cut and paste that I did before. I also tried to upload from the files but it didnt want to do that either.
Any suggestions?

Ok...I think I have figured out what was wrong....

Thank you for the photos, they explain what is going on.

In the photo that shows no bottom depth there is one major thing that I noticed. The fishfinder range scale in that photo says it is set to 60ft and there is no bottom echo showing which means that the water you are operating in is deeper than 60 ft. When the fish finder is set to manual range it tells the sounder to keep the range at that depth. If the water all of a sudden becomes deeper than the range the fishfinder is set for it does not know to go deeper unless it is manually adjusted.

When running the fish finder in manual range, if you do not see a bottom echo, range the fishfinder to a deeper depth until you see the bottom echo.

Or just run the fish finder in auto range.

Kind Regards,

Thanks...you rock!

(no I never got a manual...it's a guessing game for me. :-0 )
