Lately my NavNet 3D system is loosing its gps signal occasionally. Tonight while in slip it lost the signal 24 times in 45 minutes. Last time it did this was Dec 25th. What could be causing the signal loss?

Does it seem to always lose GPS in the same location?

What GPS unit are you having with your NN3D?

We are on the Great Loop, so no on the same location. Not sure what GPS unit is on the boat. Boat electronics are not my strength. I did shut down the unit and restarted. Since then it has not lost the signal.

It sounds like the GPS antenna has a problem with the front end amp. This is typical of GPS units that are mounted too close to a transmitting source or inside the radar beam transmission. The sensitivity slowly goes. At this point, it sounds like the GPS will need replacement. Before you do, I highly recommend looking over the antenna location/placement because the new one will do the same if placed in the same situation. Not saying this was the cause but it is more common than you think. Too many installers place units without giving thought to other items around it or someone comes behind them to mount something that causes the same. Unless you have a bucket over your sensor, it sounds like it is time to replace it. If you have photos of the mounting location with the good view of all the items around it, I might be able to spot an issue/cause. Once the GPS internal amp is blown/damaged, there is no fixing it.
