Interfacing the FCV 800 with Olex

I have a FCV 800 sounder, with a 526 TID-HDD transducer, and I’m currently in the process of interfacing it with my Olex. Connections are made and hardness is showing on the sounder’s NMEA 0183 menu but seeing anything on Olex…any help would be appreciated

1. Is your transducer plugged into XDR1 port?
2. Is the XDR1 set to CW and the 526TID-HDD selected for CW Type in Menu-System-Transducer?
3. Is Format set to compatible one for Olex, NMEA Output set to ON and Bottom Hardness turned ON in Menu-System-Network-NMEA0183?

In Olex, you should be able to go to the layers menu and "show data flow" and it will show the data coming from the sounder and the list of sentence types (data types). To do hardness in Olex, you have to pay extra for the HT module.

I like the Actisense opto-4 cable to hook Furuno sounders to PC serial port. That will work with no drivers to install.

There are some USB-rs422 adaptors but some have linux drivers and some don't, and older Olex operating systems have limit of 4 serial ports; too many variables for most people unskilled in the operating system details.
