FA-70 AIS

Greetings ! I have two NavNet3D chart plotters and a networked display running TZ Navigation s/w as well as a FA70 AIS. Everything works great. My question: can the dedicated FA70 GPS info be used as a secondary Navigation GPS source for the chartplotters and networked Nav display should my primary GPS fail? I like redundancy as we are crossing the Atlantic in a year. It appears the FA70 is directly connected to the computer via a NMEA0183 to 2000 converter and the AIS info is distributed to the NAVNet3D chart plotters via 2000. Thoughts? Thx ! Ken

Short answer is YES, you can output AIS and GPS data from the FA70.

Further clarification...

The FA70 NMEA2000 port and both NMEA0183 ports can be configured to output AIS data (targets) only or AIS + GNSS data (Global Navigation Satellite System).

The NavNet 3D can only interface to the FA70 using NMEA0183 (the NavNet3D cannot display NMEA2000 AIS data).

Ok thx. The FA70 must be connected to the NAVNET separately from the computer and display since both NAVNET CP display AIS targets. I do have my computer connected to the FA70 via usb and have the AIS configuration tool on the computer desktop. It works as I just changed MMSI and the boat name since I only recently bought this boat. I’ll see if I can configure the AIS to output GNSS. Thanks for the info! Ken
