To find out what model it is, you need to know the antenna type of the unit. If it was connected to a dome, it was an 1833 (B). If it was connected to a short stick open array it was a 1933 (F), if it was a full size open array it was a 1943 (G). If you don't know, you might be able to go to the Radar Setup menu to check the antenna type listed (B, F, or G). Like the Reaper noted, you cannot purchase updated charts for it. However, there's a lot of charting options out there these days, decent ones you can even view on an iPad. If the radar and sounder still give strong returns, its very capable as a display for the vessels' sounder and radar array.

Reaper is correct that if you wish to have current mapping, the display would be need to replaced with a used VX2 10.4" C-map unit for which new charts can still be purchased. NavNet one is done as a chart plotter due to lack of charts. It could be kept as a radar only.
