Adding PG-500 to VX2

I have a 10.4” VX2 paired with a 25kW open array and a transom mounted transducer. I recently acquired a PG-500 with hopes of utilizing the overlay function with radar and the plotter. I’ve connected the PG-500 to 12v power and used a blue data cable to network port 3. I have cleared the memory from the PG-500 (it is a used unit) and run the diagnostics test. All good. The overlay option in “Display” is grayed out and unavailable.

Not sure what the next steps are. I don’t find a way to select this device as the heading sensor, nor is network port 3 available in the set-up screen.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I suspect it is your wiring of the compass to the data 3 (heading port) on your 10.4" Vx2. You said you used a BLUE NETWORK cable? The blue network cables are normally used for the "NETWORK" connection of the system. They are not wired the same as the correct NMEA cable that came with the compass. Did you rewire the blue network cable to ensure your wiring is correct to get heading into pins 1 and 2 (if using NMEA) or pins 1,2,3,4 (if using AD10)?

Thanks for the response. I noted the cable specifically because I wasn’t 100% sure it would work. It was just a blue Furuno cable I had on hand and it fit. The unit I acquired did not have a cable with it. I guess I need the 000-125-237 cable.

Yes or the newer part number for it (000-159-695).

The blue network cables have a built in cross over in them for networking. Unless you do some modifications, you can't directly use that cable.

I am having the same problem. I have connected the PG500 per the Furuno tech instructions (I can't remember which port). The PG-500 powers up and the radar and chart work individually. What sort of setup/settings need to be adjusted to get the overlay option to initialize? Thanks

Your previous posts concerned the TZT2 system. Can you confirm you are trying to connect to a vx2 or is it TZT2?

I’m tagging this on to another post. I’m trying to connect a VX two to PG 500. In fact I have connected it but the overlay won’t come up

Something appears to be wrong with the wiring between the compass and the Vx2. Is it wired from the compass via the AD10 connection or the NMEA connection. Can you explain how the wiring is on the Data 3? The overlay isn't coming up on the Vx2 because it doesn't see heading data. Is the Vx2 a 7" or a 10.4" unit?

It is a 10” unit. I’ll have to look but if I remember correctly the PG500 is connected directly to Data port 3. I also have a sounder module and I recall buying an AD10 wire and connecting it to the sounder module but I don’t recall where it connects, I believe it goes to the head unit. Sounder works fine.

Maybe the cord is bad? Do you have a replacement? Here’s a picture of the connections.

The sounder is a network item not AD10. Maybe you have the cables on the wrong connectors at the back of the unit. I normally recommend AD10 from the compass be used. I guess it depends on how you wired it (for AD10 or NMEA). Normally AD10 would be used to the heading port of the 10.4" (data 3).

From your photo data 3 shows the blue network type cable is used and not the normal heading cable. Blue network cables are cross over cables for the network connection. I suspect this is your problem. The wiring is most likely wrong for the heading because the wrong cable was used. You would need to sort that out.
