adding external monitor to MFD8

We have a TV in the saloon that has a VGA input for hooking to a PC. Can I use a DVI cable with a DVI-VGA converter and use this TV as an external monitor for the MFD8? The resolution and frequency of the TV meets the MFD8 specs. The Furuno instructions state that a DVI monitor must be used.

The MFD8 outputs DVI-D only. There is no analog signal with DVI-D so just the converter plug will not work. You would need an expensive video converter to do the trick.
