SCX 21 to Furuno FCV1150

Just a quick question.
I am looking into the SCX 21 Satellite Compass to connect to my FCV 1150 for heave and pitch corrections.
Just want to know if it is compatible with the 1150 and if any testing has been done with this combination.

The SCX21 will work with the FCV1150 but there is a good chance it will need to be configured to get them setup. Data 3 of the SCX21 is defaulted to 4800 and your best attempt but it is using a newer version of NMEA (4.1) so if that doesn't get picked up by the FCV1100 the settings of the SCX21 would need to change. You might have to lower the version of NMEA and possibly change it to a $GP talker; all of which the SCX21 can do.

Thanks very much for the reply Johnny.
Is the reconfiguration something I could do or is it something only a Furuno tech could do?
I have an Actsense NDC-4 Multiplexor that I run all my NMEA 0183 devices through, could the Actisense help with the configuration of the SCX 21?
Thanks

You can't use a multiplexer. You can use an actisense PC interface with the SCtool software (posted under the product page). You could also use the GP39 to setup and configure the SCX21.

Thanks Johnny, just curious would the GP39 need to stay connected to the SCX during operation or could the GP39 just be used to configure the SCX and then have the SCX function without the GP39. I only ask that because I know someone who has a GP39 that I could probably borrow to set up the SCX.

Haven't tried that model but as long as the actisense is seen by windows it should be selectable by the tool software. The one that I know that works goes from USB port on the PC to the SCX21. The GP39 does not have to say connected to the SCX21. If using the GP39 it can be configured and then disconnected.

Hello Johnny
I just wanted to ask a bit more about the connection for SCX 21 to the 1150.
On the 1150 there is a stabilisation setting menu. Is this menu used in the connection of the SCX21?
Also the NMEA2 connections RD-A and RD-B are assigned for connection of a Satelite Compass but it only says SC-30/50/110. Are these same NMEA2 inputs used for the SCX21 or do I just use NMEA1 RD-A and RD-B?

Yes or other suitable Furuno SAT compass.

You would wire up the NMEA data and setup the NMEA MENU setting to "SPECIAL" then turn the Stabilization to "ON". Under the same (Stabi) menu you would pick the SC30 as the sensor. (in lue of SCX21 being there) YES, to NMEA2 as shown RD-A (+) and RD-B (-) input.

Have been using the SCX21 with my 1150 for a while now and am fairly happy with it. I set everything up as best as I could understand with the setting tool.
I recently marked a nice little pinnacle while out fishing and thought it looked a bit strange. A couple of weeks later I marked a near identical pinnacle at a completely different location. I have not seen anything like this on the 1150 prior to installing the SCX21. I suspect something is not right in my connections and the SCX21 is sending an incorrect heave or pitch correction to the 1150. Hoping to get some thoughts on this and may be a run down on the best settings between the SCX21 and the 1150.

Can you post a photo of the SCX21 mounting which shows the other items around it on the boat? I wonder if the SCX21 is picking up some interference from something. I agree that the pinnacle looks not to be a real bottom sounding.

Hello Johnny,
Could you please post up your advised settings for both the SCX21 and the FCV1150 to apply during the pairing of the two units.
Things like baud rates and the "talker" settings.
I seem to have everything working as it should but it would be nice to confirm that I am using the correct settings.
Thanks

If you have matching baud rates then you have it correct. If the baud rate or talker is wrong the feature won't work at all.

Hello Johnny thanks for all your help.
I have followed a lot of your instructions and they have really helped. I have included some screenshots of my settings.
I had to set my 1150 to V3.0 NMEA as when I set it to "Special" it would not output NMEA data to my Timezero Pro on my PC.
