Gp-31 can I get gps signal from data 1

Is it possible to hook my gp-31 to my mfd12 through NMEA and receive position and gps data instead of using the antenna. My mfd 12 is hooked to a gp330b via NMEA 2000

Although you can wire the GP31 to the MFD12, it has suffered from GPS Rollover problem. It is not recommended to continue use of the GP31.The easiest install of a GPS antenna on the MFD12 would be a GP330B/0183 that plugs directly into Data1 on the back of the MFD12.

Using the GP31 for a backup is fine. The GPA017 you mentioned would not interface with the MFD12 directly though...if that's what you're suggesting. Our current recommendations for the MFD12 position source is GP330B via NMEA2000, GP330B/0183 via Data1, or interfacing any other stand-alone GPS with NMEA0183 or NMEA2000 such as our GP39 or GP33.

Sorry I didn’t specify I’m gonna just run the antenna on coax straight to the GP

Re-reading your original post, I think I now understand what you were asking. No, the GP31 cannot receive GPS information via NMEA0183 from the MFD12 using it's GP330B as the source. The GP31 must have its own GPA017 antenna in order to display GPS/position data.
