I have a Dff3d that stops showing bottom when you get into a soft bottom. I mainly use it to build bottom with time zero. Once it loses bottom it will return when you get back on hard bottom. It’s a thru hull transducer

It sounds like the gain offset might need to be boosted. Not sure what settings are available in TZ software so you would want to work with their support concerning available settings or adjustments within their software.
