Replaced all electronics and need advice on which AP to replace the RM ST8001
I have 2 TZTouch 2’s pg700 Do I need to replace the pump? How do I find out the pump size if needed? And rudder reference unit?
Boat is a 50’ sedan bridge w/ diesel inboards. I’d like the remote on the 300 series but that looks like it’s targeted towards center consoles. Can I use the 711c? The head unit on the 700 is larger and not as appealing .

Havanajoe,
thank you for your inquiry.
Will break the questions down one at a time;
"Do I need to replace the pump?"- the answer to this is not usually, as long at the pump was properly sized originally, is 12v or 24v reversible, and is in good operating condition. The Furuno autopilot processor will connect to the existing + and - of the pump wiring.
"How do I find out the pump size if needed?"- the pump size needed is dependent on the steering system specification of your particular vessel. Start by getting the make & model number of the steering ram(s) back at the rudders. Go to that manufacturers website and determine the cubic inches of displacement (volume) of the ram(s). Then select a pump from the accessories tab of the autopilot on the FurunoUSA website that is the correct voltage & falls within the volume range of your ram.
"And rudder reference unit? "- yes. inboard engines typically have dedicated rudders (not a jet drive pods) and as such the autopilot will need to have a sensor so that it know the position of the rudders.
"Can I use the 711c?"- yes you certainly can use the NavPilot 711c.

Flatline, thank you for the help I am researching the steering ram and pump. I see the 300 pilot is geared towards CC boats but I really like the remote capabilities could I use this pilot on my boat? Or does Furuno have a pilot with remote control option?

I am looking at the same situation on my boat .I have 2 TZT2's and I will add another TZT2 in the tower this winter. How much autopilot control will you have on the TZT2 in the tower? Can you switch from auto to standby on the unit? I have a working Raymarine autopilot now , glad to hear I can keep the pump.
I am also looking at the 300 and 711.

The Furuno would have zero direct control of the raymarine other than provide the typical steering instructions. If you have either a NavPilot 300 or Navpilot 700 series then you can have a virtual control in the data box allowing you to take the pilot to auto/Nav/Standby and dodge. It can not turn On/Off the pilot. To turn on or off the pilot you must use the included pilot control head.
