what is the purpose of the TAP setting?

I am planning on slewing the frequencies on my 295/r99 combo. i read the "fcv295 with r99" thread (#p7999).

I am not getting what the TAP settings do.

Would running the r99 with the stock recommended setting while slewing the frequency damage the unit or xducer? What does putting the TAP settings in the "A" TAP do?

Teffy,
Different transducers have different impedance values, the TAP setting is used to match the output power of the sounder to the rated input power of a transducer.

Teffy,
I explained what the TAP settings are.
The R-99 was designed to work around 50 and 200Khz. Feel free to adjust the frequencies as you see fit. If you wish to do so, just know that the impedance of the transducer will change so set the TAP's at their lowest "A" value or you risk damaging the 295.

Thanks Snips

I'm not a tech or sonar expert, just trying to understand what the capabilities and limitations of my sounder are. I don't want to trash my sounder by doing something I read and not understanding the system

Appreciate your input and helping me out.
