Volvo 320 DPI with shadowdrive

Hi All,

Welcome from summer in NZ.
Would appreciate some help please. I have just refurbished my boat with the Volvo 320 DPI with shadowdrive as the autopilot. This works perfectly. I also have through preference a Furuno TZtouch3 as my chart plotter and fish finder. My problem however is that the Garmin shadowdrive won’t allow functionality on the Furuno...for example the GO TO function...does anyone have any idea how to configure either/both so that they work ?

Thank you

Thanks Johnny...yes it does because the shadow drive ccu is connected to the Volvo EVC and Furuno through NMEA 2000 network. Autopilot works fine; but shadowdrive won’t accept the GO TO instruction via Furuno but it will do through the Volvo EVC....

Shadow drive is a hydraulic flow sensor that disables autopilot when the wheel is turned if you have hydraulic steering. I believe you have a fly-by-wire engine and steering.

You need to hit go to on the furuno and then autopilot engage, then nav mode on the ghc 20. If that isn't working I would confirm the furuno is hooked to the correct network. I'm not familiar with volvos but on Optimus fbw steering systems there is a canbus and a nmea 2000 network. It's easy to get them confused.

Shadow drive is based solely as the pilot function with hydraulic sensor. If not working it is most likely to do with the hydraulic sensor than the pilot but both of these things are Garmin so I recommend you speak to them. The plotter could be any brand and standard certified steering instructions is basically the same with ZERO involvement to the shadow drive function.
