V6.21 update ???

I am using an external DFF3.

Is it necessary to reset the internal sounder and MFG if I don't use and wont ever use the internal sounder? (Part 3 & 4 of update.)

Assuming the reset of the MFG and sounder are not necessary for my application, do I still need to download my settings and points to a USB prior to the update?

Assuming that Part 3 & 4 must be done, can I backup my settings and points on the same USB that Part 2 of the update is stored on or does it need to be a separate USB?

You should reset the internal sounder only (not external sounders).
This applies even if you don't use it.

Yes you could use the same USB. You don't want to have the USB plugged in until the unit is already up and running; then you can back up your data.

I cannot get my unit to run the second part of the update, from usb drive. When I format and load the part 2 data, all looks good. I insert into drive, turn on machine and it boots up and runs but does not “beep” and read drive, so charts and photos are not updating.
Then when I shut it down, take out the usb and view it’s content on my laptop, there is a “lost dir “ file.

I wouldn't recommend reformatting a USB that was just working well. Normally just delete the files and put on the new stuff. I can only guess it doesn't like the format. Also note that part two of 6.21 is to update the internal sounder, internal users guide, and a few other things. It will not change your maps. Your primary navigational maps are held on a chart card that you will re-insert after the update process. If you continue to have problem getting Part2 to work, I recommend contacting technical support while you are at the unit. They might be able to talk you through any problem. Alternately, update kits (pre-setup media) are available for purchase from your dealer.

When I did my update, the second part would not load. I talked to technical support and they suggested a different USB stick. I bought a cheap SanDisk Cruzer, loaded update, re ran the update program and it downloaded and went right through.
