Utilising spare backbone terminal on Fl-5002

Hi,
My system has got two Fl-5002 units which are connected via a backbone between them utilising one of the back bone terminals in each unit. Both units are completely full of connected devices and yet I have one more device I wish to connect. Can I use the spare back bone terminal on the unit to connect a device or are these solely for backbone connections?
