on my 282 Grady White Sailfish i currently using 24" 4kw Furuno radome connected to a Navnet 1 7" and 10" displays. Performance seems ok, but considering upgrading to a DRS2D or 4D sensor to be displayed on my 12" NN3D and also gain radar overlay (Navnet 1 equipment will be kept and utilized as FF and back up GPS/Plotter).

1. is it worth it to upgrade from the older 24" 4kw radome to a newer sensor? am i going to gain significant performance upgrade?

2. if the performance is significantly better, which sensor would be best suited for my boat and needs? (mainly inshore and offshore fishing/boating (out to 35miles) on west coast of vancouver island)

If replacing a 4KW dome, I would say it wouldn't be really be much of an upgrade if dropping down to a 2.2kw dome (DRS2D). The DRS2D would offer faster sampling but you would lose on range and horizontal resolution. If you added the DRS4D to the MFD12, then it would offer better performance besides the advanced digital processing it offers a variable speed antenna so at the close ranges the radar sampling will be twice that of the older radar. Your MFD12 will need heading data to overlay the DRS radar image over the chart but when done, it really can increase your situational awareness.
