TZTouch2 with 3kw transducer

Has anyone used the TZ2 with a 3 kW transducer in either a 50hz or 200hz frequency? If so how is the performance and ease of use compared to using a FCV-295?

This is my situation. I have 50F-24H 3kw transducer and a 200hz (can't find the model number) 3kw transducer that a FCV1000 runs. I am replacing the FCV1000. Just not sure if I should use my TZ2 or install the FCV295. It's close to the same money to make work. Looking for some advice.

Thanks

The TZT2 has a 1kW internal sounder that would require the use of a MB1100 matching box. I would not recommend this for your sounder. Stick to the FCV295 or add a DFF3 external sounder module to the TZT2.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that I would need to add a DFF3 for my 3kw transducers to work with the TZ2. I am trying to decide what would work better with the 3kw transducers the TZ2 or the FCV295. Some comparisons or differences would be great information.

Thanks bluewater

Bluewater-
Seeing as the FCV295 is a dedicated sounder it is most definitely the way to go for replacing the FCV1100. All keys and functions will be dedicated to the sounder as opposed to menu access on the TZT2. Many features on the FCV295 are not available with TZT2, even with the DFF3. While the TZT2 is an excellent feature filled MFD you will be paying much more for non-fishing related features you haven't requested. The TZT2 will at the least cost about $1800 more and if you add the DFF3 you are looking at about $3000 more.

Hi Melville,

I currently have a TZT2 setup on my boat and was looking at adding a DFF3. I would have gone down the track of adding an 1150 or 295 but don't have the area to mount the extra screen.
My understanding is that the DFF3 is the same processor as the 1150?
I will be running 1KW transducers but may be looking at also adding a 2KW at some stage.
I mostly fish in depths up to 200-300 meters chasing Marlin but also occasionally fish for swords in depths of 400-600 meters.
Are there any limitations in going for the TZT2 and DFF3 for my intended use?
You also mentioned that not all features of the DFF3 are available on the TZT2, can you be a bit more specific please.

Keep Smiling

Leon

Leonidas-
Adding a DFF3 with a larger 2kW transducer is fine for your intended use.
I was commenting to the OP about comparing stand-alone fish finder, which he desired, to a combo unit, which he didn't. Your situation is different.

Thank You Melville.

You mentioned that not all features of the DFF3 will be available on the TZT2, can you elaborate on that please.

Keep Smiling

Leonidas-
When you have a chance please look at the FCV295 brochure on-line. You will see that while the DFFS and 295 have essentially the same FFS transceiver design the operating modes are vastly different. You have the ability for left, right or L/R scroll, mix-mode, programmed function key, and quick gain control that are just not available using the DFF3.

Hi...i am a new user here. As per my knowledge its keys and functions will be dedicated to the sounder as opposed to menu access on the TZT2. Many features on the FCV295 are not available with TZT2, even with the DFF3. While the TZT2 is an excellent feature filled MFD you will be paying much more for non-fishing related features you haven't requested.

Hi DedeBarre,

I am aware that I will not get as much functionality using a DFF3, the issue is trying to fit a package together for a dual station boat and being able to network the units to each other.
Space is always an issue, hence the decision to go with the TZT2 screens both in cockpit and Tower as I can have both GPS and sounder in the one unit.
That path was chosen as there was no dash space to fit an 1150 in the cockpit and have it networked to the tower.
My thoughts were that I could add a DFF3 down the track and be able to use a better sounder module and be able to network it to the two stations as well.

Melville,
When running a DFF3 or an 1150 will it be possible to connect twin kw transducers (SS175/SS264) and a 2KW transducer to the system?

Instead of the DFF3, if I connected an 1150 in the cockpit, will I get full functionality of the 1150 in the tower through the TZT2?

Keep smiling

Leon

Leon-
The FCV1150 will not network with the TZT2.

You can have 2 separate power (kW) transducers with the DFF3, FCV295, or the FCV1150.
Power for each transmission line is set independently.
