TZT2 12" Shutting down

Moonzy1

Furuno Super Fan
MFD will periodically power cycle on its own.

Any ideas?
Software is up to date
Wiring is sound and power supply good.

Do you have any air movement around the unit. These units don't like to get overheated. I recommend getting a log file from the service menu and send the file to tech support so they can look at it. Sometimes they can see issues via the log file. You might also verify your user data doesn't have any duplicate waypoints or ghost routes (routes with no distance) that might cause the software to restart.

I had a unit shut down on me last time out and was waiting to see if it was a one off.

How do I get a log file copy?

put a memory stick into USB port and go into the service menu and you will see where to "export log file". It will save the data onto the USB. Password for the service area is "FURUNO SERVICE"

I and some others have reported the same problem in the past. Even though mine is open in the back, I've placed a fan on it to make sure air circulates. I haven't been able to use it since then, but just running all day at the dock, it hasn't shut down again yet.

Johnny, how far back does the user log record? Will mine still contain data from a year ago when it was shutting down?

I had this happen for the first time last outing. It was on the way in. MFD's have fans on them from Seavee. However, it did not totally turn off but rather on its own got to the "power off network/equipment screeen" . I pushed no/cancel and it was fine. Starboard MFD only. Port never did it.

My buddy's contender with same equipment continues to do it and he's replaced batteries, wiring, pulled units and sent to factory and still can't solve it.

The log file will normally go back to the last factory reset/clear. Anyone that has a continuing problem should open an official support case with tech support and providing the log file is a good start to see what might causing an issue. Duplicate waypoints can cause rebooting as can any bad user data like corrupt tracks.

Mine just shut down again today. The outside temp is 92F and the inside temp is 82F. The back of the unit measured 102F and the front glass 112F.

I will send the log file to Furuno to check if anything is amiss. I will also look for duplicate waypoints and bad tracks.

Can you explain duplicate waypoints a bit more? Does that mean duplicate positions of the waypoints, or duplicate names? I have duplicate names for different waypoints (example "Anchor"), but they have different positions.

mine shut down today and never came back on....will trace connections in the am..has a dedicated fan blowing right on the back of the unit... would appreciate any suggestions

I installed mine 2016. It shutdown yesterday for the first time. My 1971 was fine. Pressed the start button and it came back up.

Normally if they shut down and won't come up it is due to power conditions on the boat or heat related. After given time to cool down it will power up but if that is the problem I would look at more ventilation or a fan to move air.

What would the suspect cause be if the unit shuts down and immediately restarts.

I have two TZ2-15’s side by side and last time out had a single unit shut down and restart immediately when power button was pushed. Both have same ventilation and same power source. So I don’t suspect power or heat issue since they are the same...

The unit with the fan blowing directly on it is the one that powers down on my boat.

It powered back up the next am and ran all day no problem.

Batteries might have been low then and good after charging. Must have good amps or the unit will power down to protect itself.

DFF1-UHD with orange wire connected, low current, bad NMEA 2000 network, un-shielded network cables it is hard to say. I would recommend opening a support case with your distributor's technical support and providing a system log file from the Service menu. If Furuno USA is your distributor that is found under www.FurunoUSA.com - SUPPORT - Ask a question. Ignored problems don't typically get better.

Duplicates are ones with same name and same exact location.

I am working with an open Furuno service ticket. I imported a bunch of waypoints into my machine from my friends Contender in December. While looking thru the waypoints by arranging them by "Range" I found NUMEROUS duplicates. Most did not have a name but had the same symbol. A few actually had names. Will the ones without the names but same color/symbol/location cause the issue as well?

I've spent 4 hours deleting the duplicates and plan to run the boat Friday.
