Tzt12F - temp reading

I have a Tzt12F in my boat with a Airmar B275HLW transducer. when I bought the boat 2 years ago, the wires from the transducer to display had been cut (or maybe it came this way). the splice wasn't done too well so I bought the Airmar 12 pin slice kit and put it together.

I always assumed the temp was accurate but recently I've started questioning it because the water temps don't match my satellite maps. I bought a pool thermometer to compare the two devices. I put in the pool thermometer in the water at the harbor and both matched. on my last fish trip I didn't like the reading on the display so I put the thermometer in my 140 gallon bait tank. this time, the display read about 3 degrees low (as I've seen recently).

I understand this is not a scientific test. I plan to look at the wiring, especially the two white wires to see if anything is loose. Any thoughts on how to confirm the accuracy of the B275hlw to furuno unit is or isn't correct? thanks

If the thermometer and the TZT12F showed the same temperature when you tested in the harbor, and they matched, then it's good. If you feel the temperature if off, there is a temperature offset in the menu to correct any difference. Testing with thermometer in the harbor was the best way to confirm that the B275LHW temperature is accurate.

You really don't know how good the pool thermometer is...
I would use my Weston stainless steel thermometer that I've used to develop film for 35 years. That has to be pretty accurate because a couple degrees off messes with the darkroom chemistry processes.
Also there are digital thermometers with probes that are not expensive but probably reliable.
The water 2 feet down under the boat could indeed be 3 degrees colder than surface water in calm conditions.

update. I was at the boat today and made the comparison test. there was a 2 degree difference so I made a change to the Furuno unit. I'll still check the white wires this weekend. thanks
