SCX20 offset question

Ant postion X so would I take a measurement from the center of my wheelhouse then add a positive value as my compass on stbd side. What value does the postive/negative represent? if my compass is mounted say 4 feet from center would it be postive ? is a +1 value 1m?

also I have a new FI70 which as I undersatnd has the scx20 set up built in.

heading offset, how would one know if the heading needs offset if the sat compass reads heading? What would cause heading offset? could someone please help me understand.

The setting is in meters.

The FI70 has an offset but unlike the other devices like the TZT2/3, the offset might only offset the heading on the FI70 device itself. It is uncommon to need an offset if you mounted the compass square to the boat with the bow mark forward.
