I have presently have scx20 and Fi70 running on nmea 2000 bus all pretty straight forward and no issues, plug and play. Looking at getting another vessel and removing my scx20 and fi70. The other vessel is all nmea 0183, ais, gp39, radar, plotter. The autopilot is both nmea 2000 and 0183 I wish to have my sat compass as my heading for plotter, radar and Ais to plotter and radar which are all nmea 0183. So what would be the best way to get everything to work together and create a nmea 2000 bus. Do I have to buy a nmea 0183 to 2000 converter for each one of my electronics, ais, plotter , radar, gp39 ?

Yes you would need a separate converter for each device. The FURUNO part number would be IF-NMEA2K2

It's also common to use a Noland DX28 to hook up multiple 0183 listeners to one source (such as a if-nmea2k2 converter or actisense),

With regard to AIS and SCX-20, each is able to saturate a NMEA0183 connection by themselves, making it difficult to receive a blend of 250kbit nmea2000 data with a 38kbit converter. A NMEA0183 device getting AIS and heading+position might need two different NMEA0183 inputs!
