Route details on GP1971

When I create a new route on the GP1971 the Route Detail box at the top of the screen appears. However, after a minute or so it disappears. How can I keep the details box on the screen?

If you activate the route the details should stay put and adjust in real-time.

It seems that the route requires two points. Why wouldn't your current location be the default starting point?

People plan trips that they don't want to be tied to the current boat location. Whenever you activate a route it always establishes a line from the current location to the first waypoint in the established/selected route. It doesn't sounds like yours is working counter to the book or established methods.
