The next version of software should fix you up. In at least one of the reported cases above with Yamaha engines it was discovered they didn't have the proper Yamaha gateway. The current software has a known issue with a false Yamaha engine error. This will be fixed in the next version. For those with Yamaha engines, you MUST have a proper gateway installed. Installing just an adapter cable between a NMEA 2000 bus and the commandlink/commandlink + system is not acceptable and can damage your ECM and cause errors.

I have this same false alarm issue with my Yamaha interface. Has the software fix ever been issued? I installed the last update v 5.03 and I still have the problem.

If you contact teach support they can provide you a beta that can address the Yamaha. If you don't have the proper gateway, the new software will cause one error to grow to about 25. At least that is what we found on the other case we researched. Someone is selling a direct Yamaha connection to NMEA 2000 and that is not proper. The installation MUST have a Yamaha gateway, or the problem will only get worse. If you have a gateway, I would recommend you contact tech support for software.

Thanks. I do have one of those "direct" connections so you are saying I am cooked?

I read the earlier comment about the necessity for a Yamaha gateway. I don't understand the issue at all. I have an Actisensense NMEA interface that I can connect to the backbone and read the PGNs on my laptop. The Yamaha engine is transmitting what appear to be perfectly standard engine and fuel PGNs that the Actisense software recognizes and identifies. It does not show any PGNs for engine fault messages.

Our instructions have always called for a Yamaha gateway.

The problem is the Yamaha bus uses similar data and it fools the system into thinking you have things working. In reality, you are mixing two completely different bus systems without using the properly gateway/interface. During my research, I found one customer who caused expensive damage to his Yamaha ECU because he used one of those cables. Basically you are taking a properly powered and terminated Yamaha propitiatory bus and connecting it to a NMEA 2000 bus which already has its own power and terminations.

Whomever said that cable is suitable for this has not only created this error for you but also put you at risk of damaging your electronics. Your NMEA 2000 bus is not acceptable now either. I am surprised you haven't seen some rebooting issues in addition to the engine error. I would recommend you remove that cable and either not interface the engines or get the needed interface. The other case I worked with; installed the proper gateway and is no longer having any problems.

Thanks, that is interesting and explains why the engine cannot be a simple drop off the backbone. To further complicate matters, I have an older F115 Yamaha (2007) that antedates the Commandlink system they now use. I suspect it may not give rise to some of the problems you have seen with "direct" connections from later Yamaha engines, which is why I have not experienced the rebooting. Unfortunately I think my engine may not be compatible with the Yamaha interface. It's too bad because I really like having the ability to track the fuel consumption precisely because the tank gauge on my boat doesn't work!

johnny

is there anyway with the 6.21 software to cut that message off the screen or a factory reset that will work
i have the correct gateway so it not that ..before this update i could clear it and it would go away but now you cant

jim

If you have the correct engine interface and getting an engine error then it sounds like something your engine(s) isn't happy about. You jumped on a long existing thread so I don't know enough about the background on your case. I would recommend you contact tech support. You shouldn't be getting errors unless the engines are putting them out.

johnny

i jumped on this thread because im getting this also..there are no codes listed on my yamaha gauges or in the tz touch 2..its just flashing on the screen. before the 6.21 update i was getting the maintanace error in red but i could go in the unit and clear that and it would go away. its doing just like the above guys are having. is there away to turn off something on the tztouch so it doesnt pick up the engine stuff as i dont need this feature anyway

jim

The other cases were because they didn't have a proper gateway which is required. Your case doesn't sound related. You say you have the correct gateway. If you contact tech support they can look at your connected equipment and see if they can find the problem. You can put your engines and engine gauges on a different NMEA 2000 bus separate than the TZT2 but you shouldn't have to do that.
