Red, blue black wire confusion.

I searched but didn't quite get an answer I understood. So my fcv800 manual shows Red, Blue as power wire and black as Shield, ground I presume. So all my other electrical addons I hook up the red to power, black to the ground block. I did the same w 800 and no go. There's power at the red to the fuse. But unit is not turning on. I'm guessing it's still some sort of grounding thing but ....? Is it either blue or black or both? Should I just say screw it and run direct wires back to battery? Help. Go easy, I'm easily confused


Epilogue: I just direct wired to battery.

Installation manual shows Red as battery positive Blue as battery negative and the shield ( Black) as going to boats ground system.
