GP 1871/1971 12 volt connections

Bright Idea

I am installing a new GP 1971. The installation manual simply shows a direct connection to + ( red) and - ( black) sides of the 12 volt connection to the battery as well as the shield to the ships ground. I do not believe I have ever installed an electrical device without an appropriate sized fuse ? What amp fuse should be used in this application ? The specifications page appear to suggest that with 12 volts the 1971 draws 1.1 amps ?

Furuno specifications are pretty reliable, if Furuno says that it's 1.1 amps (1 Amp) @ 12v that's with the chart plotter, fish finder, and radar all going at once (it's .5A on 24v). Furuno states in one of it's Misc. FAQs that the GP1871F/1971F Combo units have a LEN value of 1 for planning purposes. So it'd be safe to fuse it for a 1 LEN device (e.g. 1.5A/2A Fuse).

Thank You, 1.5 or 2 amp is what I assumed. Very curious why Furuno does not recommend fusing or why the cable is not provided with an inline fuse ? possibly internally protected ?
