hi guys please can you help me with this question. I am planing to install a r509 on a large trailer boat. I need to decrease the over all Hight of the transducer so boat will fit on trailer. will pocket mounting this transducer affect its range or damage it ? how much of the transducer could I have inside the hull? thanks for your help.

Gregg,
What sounder are you connecting the transducer to?

Snips

I own the tzt2 but have yet to purchase the dff3 and transducer
at present running a tm 260 . I have never been able to get the 260 to run well. trying for long time no luck.

I've worked in marine industry for long time all ways found other furuno gear easy to use and reliable. I have had two different furuno head units on this tm260 and moved the transducer all over the back of boat and many tru hull tank trials. I think there is bad aeration buy the hull or the transducer is faulty?

I was going for the r509 to get the face of the transducer down into clean water away from the hull aeration issue?

Gregg,
I try to stay away of transom mounts as they are subject to turbulence. It pretty easy to tell if you start getting gaps in the bottom on 50Khz as the vessel picks up speed, it's turbulence.
Since you are not going to be "Chirping" the R-509 it's not going to heat up like it normally would. In this case you would be OK in doing away with the fairing block if you can and still keep the transducer pointed straight down.

thanks for the reply. good that transducer won't heat up . sounds like turbulence because I got the gaps. does work ok in calm conditions on the drift. but soon as increase speed get the gaps and when it is working the pic is very weak signal. No fish sign visible past 300m. hope to see big improvement with the 509. thanks for the help
