NEMA 2000 connection on DRS12a

Good Morning.

New to the forum and have tried to search this but couldn't find anything.

My question centers on NEMA 2000 connection to my new to me DRS12a radar recently purchased. I am connecting the a new TZTouch2 (which is already on my NEMA 2000 network). What, if any, benefit would there be in running a separate NEMA 2000 connection directly to the DRS12a?

Appreciate any insight, thank you.

Joe

Are you sure it is a DRS12A and not a DRS12AX or DRS12ANXT? The reason I ask is because you said you just purchased it. The newer series units do not have this connection. It technically isn't NMEA 2000. It is Furuno CANbus. It is designed to allow a Furuno GPS or SAT Compass to connect to the radar and then the radar will put that data down the cable to the system. It was a method to prevent running a GPS cable down into the boat (to meet the normal NMEA 2000 bus). For you, that connection does nothing. It will only work with the NN3D or the TZT Series one that was designed to talk with it. The TZT2 or TZT3 will not see that connection or use it.

I purchased the DRS12a from Max Marine used. Thank you for the details. It is always good to understand the why.
