I just picked up a vx2 c-map unit. rdp-149. got it and its cables for $120 shipped from Florida to Alaska. guy said it would shut off after a few minutes. got it today. took it apart. cleaned the corrosion and everything with alcohol. including the stuck trackball. been running over an hour now and works great so far! ill be getting a new c-map card for it. sadly they are almost $400! that said is there a cheaper gps antenna then the Furuno one that will work? also what domes and open arrays will work? between 4-8kw.

I also was told I need the black box in order to use my transducer? it did come with the etr-6/10n

The ETR/6-10N is know in the USA as the BBFF1 Fish Finder.

Yes, you can use that to run your transducer.

Here are the two domes that work with the RDP149.
RSB0094-075
RSB0071-057

You can run any NMEA 0183 source of GPS if you want it just needs to be wired properly to the display. The older GPS smart antenna (GP320B) is no longer sold. If wanting a smart antenna, one would order the GP330B/0183 for the Vx2.

i found a rbs-0072-060 for $100. worth it? also called furuno and they said get a radio with nmea 0183 that has gps and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

If you are in the market for an open array, the RSB0072-060 would work but you would also need the required PSU005 power unit and cable(s) that would make it into a 1954C/NT radar. Without the PSU you couldn't use that scanner. I thought you were looking for domes. For open arrays you can use these:

RSB0070-064 (Radar Scanner for 1934C/NT)
RSB0070-059 (Radar Scanner for 1944C/NT)
RSB0072-060 (Radar Scanner for 1954C/NT and requires PSU005)
RSB0072-061 (Radar Scanner or 1964C/NT and requires PSU008)

Of course you need the required cables.

The VHF radio is a good idea to provide GPS and just wire it up to a 7 pin NMEA cable into port one of the RDP149.
