What does echo offset do in the sounder settings?

Echo Offset- If the on-screen echo level appears to be too weak or too strong and the level cannot be adjusted satisfactorily with the gain control, adjust echo offset to compensate for too weak or too strong echoes.
In short you are able to shift the entire window of how strong/weak the target echo's are displayed on the screen along the color scale.
