I have an MFD8, connected to a Nauticast B300 AIS. Both of these are older pieces of gear, but fully functional. I am preparing for an offshore trip this summer, and intend to buy PLB's for the crew. One choice would be the RescueME MOB1, which transmits AIS and DSC. There are a LOT of acryonyms and overlapping features in this spectrum, and I'm confused. I also think that current standards may not have been implemented back when my MFD8 and B300 were installed.
My question is this. How well will a MOB1 (or comparable) work with my B300/MFD8? If a lone crew member on deck goes overboard, will the MOB1 provide a signal on the MFD8? And ideally, alert the off-watch crew? And sort of related, if a person on an unrelated boat is in the water nearby, will I see them? (I seem to think these things get keyed to the mothership MMSI, and may not alert all other vessels -- specifically for USA regulations).
Once I get the beacon and hook it all up, it would be wonderful if there were a way to test it -- but that's certain to bring the USCG knocking on my door! LOL
Thoughts? Recommendations?
