MFD8 NMEA0183 #3 input not functioning

I have an ancient, and highly functional MFD8 system on my boat. 16 years, according to the date sticker! And all the new kids on the block think an iPad is a better/cheaper answer....LOL. I want to add another data input to my helm station, but am not getting data. I have:

* Moved my new data input to port 2, and can see the data stream.
* Moved my other data input from port 2 to port 3, and no data stream.
* Disconnected and reconnected many wires numerous times -- I'm fairly sure it's not a loose connection.
* While I have misconfigured the baud rate (more than once!), I have gotten it right enough times to be confident that's not the problem.
* I have swapped my entire unit with my other MFD8, and all the data comes in.

I'm pretty sure that, for whatever reason, my NMEA3 input is defunct. I could buy and run a Data1 cable (if i can get it through the packed pedestal guard!), but I'd love to fix it right. I'm sure "return for service" is long past it's expiration date....

Are there any frequently found issues regarding this? I'm not afraid to open the case, if there something to look for. Or if there is a way to send NMEA1 out the NMEA3 cable.

Data2 is configured for HS, and receives my AIS and outputs to a WIFI data hub.
Data3 is configured for LS, and is intended to receive my SeaTalk instruments (via a 0183 converter). This is the input that isn't functional.

I have decided to take the expedient route, and bought a 7-pin pigtail. For the life of me, I can't find a definitive color code for the wires in this cable (the MFD8 manual only says it is Data1, with no details). So, 2 questions:

1) What are the color codes for the 7-pin cable? I've seen indications that it is RX+White, RX-Blue, TX+Yellow, TX-Green.
2) Any suggestions on fixing my Data3 input? I may never need it now that I have Data1, but I like my gear to work.

Thanks!
