How can I tell if my GP 330B is not working.

I have a GP 330b with a TZ 14 and a TZT12 installed on my boat. I cant get my chart plotter to get a position so I tried to change it to the tzt12 gps. It took a couple hours to boot on and then it finally worked. It also doesnt show any speed data to my autopilot and any position and speed on my FI70 readouts.
So its not connecting to my NMEA 2000. My heading sensor works but not GPS date.
How do you test it to find out if it works. Im debating on buying a SCX20 to replace the GP 330B. Should I get both? or would the SCX20 be sufficient? Im in an area with very little electronic people as I live on a small island in Hawaii.
Any help would be great.

I would recommend getting the SCX20 only to replace the GP330B. However, since heading is working, you could just purchase a GP340 to replace the GP330B instead.

Thank you. Im not very good with electronics but I do know I have one opening with my NMEA 2000 so I would guess thats all I need for the SCX20 and if I do change the GP330B to the GP340 I can replace that date input in the NMEA 2000 also.

Correct. If you install the SCX20, disconnect the GP330B so it can't put out bad data. Then, go to Data Sources menu and change position, sog/cog, mag var, heading and date and time to SCX20. If replacing with GP340, do the same thing as for the SCX20 except the heading source.
