Historical Lat/Lon position on FCV-588?

Apologies for the post, but the FCV-588 user manual is not quite clear on this point. I want to be able to identify the lat/long of something that I passed over, say, 30 seconds ago. My intention is to connect the 588 to my Garmin GPS that outputs position over NMEA183 (like to the VHF for DSC). Question is: does the 588 store lat/lon info for historical bottom data shown on the 588 screen, such that I could scroll back (again, maybe 30 seconds ago) on the 588 screen and retrieve the lat/lon of something I marked on the bottom? Thanks in advance, Kyle

hello MakoManiac,

Unfortunately, the FCV588 does not have the capability to store historical data, so you wont be able to scroll back and mark a point later on the FCV588.
If you had a Furuno plotter that was connected to the FCV588, then once you hit the "mark" button on the FCV588, it should send and mark a waypoint to the plotter automatically (which you could then look up the LAT/LONG for that point or mark by simply tapping on that waypoint or mark). Unfortunately this function will not work with a Garmin plotter or Garmin GPS because Garmin equipment does not support the TLL (Target Lat and Long) sentence needed to display and mark a point from another source.

I would recommend a TZTouch2, due to the fact that the TZT2 has a built in sounder (10 pin connection for the transducer, same as the FCV588), built in GPS, and has the capability to scroll back in your sounder history and mark a point, and have that point shared automatically to the plotter screen. which you would then be able to edit that point's icon, color, name, comment, LAT and Long, etc. with ease.
