Help with transducer for TZ3 9F in new tower.

We currently run dual TZ2t's on network with two transducers wired to DffUHD-1.
B175C20-HW 150kHz to 250kHz 20 degree 1KW and a
B175C-20-L 40 kHZ to 60kHz, 20 Degree ,1KW,

Do we need to add additional transducer to get side scan on the touch 3? The t3 has updated software, version 3.80.1. Is the 225T-SS904 a good choice if we need to add side scan transducer? Would it just plug into back of the touch3 since the B175's are wired to the DFF1-UHD? and then just network with the Hub 101?

thanks gary

Hi Gary,
Yes, if you have a TZT3 with the fish finder transducer port free, it can be used for side-scan. You would need the 225T type transducer connected directly to the TZT3 transducer connection. With newer software the TZT3 will automictically recognize that the 225T is connected, just ensure to do all connection with power OFF and turn it ON only after all connections have been made. Once this is done the TZT3 will be able to see both the side-scan screen and the UHD fish finder at the same time if you wish. The TZT2, if networked with the TZT3 will not be able to use/see the side-scan but can still continue to use the existing UHD fish finder.

The TZT9F does not support CHIRP Side-Scan natively through its own internal sounder. While the TZT12F, TZT16F, and TZT19F have a dual-channel internal sounder that can be toggled to a "Side-Scan Mode" when the correct transducer is plugged in, the TZT9F features a single-channel 1kW TruEcho CHIRP sounder. You can still view and control Side-Scan on your TZT9F, but the "brains" and the physical connection must come from somewhere else:
  1. Networked via another MFD: If you have a TZT12F, 16F, or 19F on the same network with a Side-Scan transducer (like the 225T-SS904) plugged into it, the TZT9F can display and fully control that Side-Scan image over the Ethernet (LAN) connection.

  2. Via DFF3D: You can connect a DFF3D Multi-Beam Sonar black box to the network. This provides "Side-Scanning" capabilities (120-degree port-to-starboard view) that the TZT9F can display. (Yet not really a "True" side-scan")

  3. The "XL" Exception: If you ever move to the newer TZT10X or TZT13X (TZtouchXL), those smaller units do now include the built-in Side-Scan hardware that the original TZT9F lacked.
