After 10 years of service, seems the GPA017 antenna of the FA50 is no longer working. The GPS diagnosis says GPS NG. I have checked connectors and everything seems ok. Nothing have changed on this side of the boat for the last 10 years. Is there a simple way to check the GPA017 with ohmeter ? Understand i could plug a passive antenna just for testing also.

thanks

NG of the self test normally indicates a problem with the GPS sensor in the FA50 and not the antenna. You can ohm the GPA017 for a rough idea but it isn't a 100% test. GPA017 units made after 2014 normally ohm out at around 560 ohms. Before that, they ohm out about 270 ohms. You might need to send the box in for evaluation based on the self test.

thanks so much. :furuno
The GPA017 is a 2010 edition. I get by measurement 220 Kohms (kilo ohms) not ohms on the antenna. I have ordered another one just to test. Could you give instructions for returning the FA50 for further tests please and the approximate turnaround ?

Turn around is normally 7 business days. You would send the unit in with your description of the problem and your contract information.

Thanks Johny by chance i got the new antena and voila we are back on the AIS space. Got spotted by marinetraffic in a minute and now the "sensor test" displays something:

Internal GPS in Use
Internal SOG/COG in Use

So Doctor is it healthy ?
