GP1971F with Airmar M258 Issues

Hi all!
I recently bought a Furuno GP1971F and hooked it up with a Airmar M258 I think that's also called 525TID-TMD. It worked amazingly! I was in about 30 meters of water. Then I drove out to 90 meters of water at speed, and it stopped reading. So, I slowed down and even at a drift it could barely mark the bottom with a faint blue line when it should have been solid red. So, I came back into 30m deep and tried everything to get it to read but it refused. I had a P66 on the boat and hooked the unit up to that and it instantly worked but it wasn't smooth and kept sending white pixels across the screen.
Unplugged the P66 and did a factory reset on the unit and plugged the M258 back in, Fixed!
Went fishing a week later excited to use the new gear and at the boat ramp it was reading crisp, and I was very impressed. Drove a few hundred meters from the ramp and again it refuses to read bottom. This time a factory reset did not help and after a frustrating hour of trying to find the problem I gave up and turned the unit off....
Has anyone had a similar issue with this unit? Does this sound like a transducer issue or unit issue? And is there anything I might not know that would be causing this problem?
It doesn't make any difference if you select 1 kw in the transducer options but I was told to select 526TID-HDD but this also made no difference.
It also mucks up when I have it set to manually adjust depth with the +and - keys, sometimes it won't change the depth, sometimes it will and other times it changes it itself even though its set to manual... Thanks guys hope you can help as I'm almost ready to rip it off the boat...
