I am trying to understand my sonar on my GP1971F. I have a 1kw transducer. There are a few things I do not understand and can not find in the manual.
1. Bottom Range Shift Area
There is a upper limit and width. What is this used for?

2.Initial Set Ups
Offsets
LF echo offsets
HF echo offsets
LF Bottom level
HF Bottom level
What do they do and what are they used for? What settings should I use.

rodneymeyers,

Bottom Range: When the seabed does not appear on-screen when you have the AUTO RANGE active, you can offset this setting so that the seabed will be displayed on the sounder screen. Set the Upper Limit so the start of the area will show the bottom echo on the sounder screen. I would start to set it around 75%, as this will place the bottom echo at the position equivalent around 3/4 from the top of the screen.

For the Width:, set the width of the bottom echo to be proportionate to the display sounder screen. You can start around 10% and then adjust it show more of the bottom echo that you want to display your sounder screen.

LF Echo Offsets / HF Echo Offsets: This is used to adjust the strongest echo that is recognized as the seabed. If the seabed is not being shown on the sounder, then lower this setting. If the seabed is shown at a shallower location than of the actual seabed, then increase this setting. But be careful that a too low setting may mistake fish targets as the seabed, or that an extremely high setting may not correctly detect the seabed.

LF/HF Bottom Level Settings: This is used to apply offsets to the seabed level for Low/High Frequency. I only adjust this setting if the GAIN is not automatically adjusting correctly.

rodneymeyers,

Yes. It adjusts the picture so the seabed is displayed on the bottom of the sounder, ensuring a better presentation.
